5 Hard slaps to the Palm does it for me. Some people I know like to beat the shit out of the packs though. I just smoke while they tire themselves out.

When you buy a new pack, you hold the pack upsidown and slap it against your palm. Doing this, it packs the tobacco further down in the cigarette. This does a couple of things. You'll find that it will burn slower, and the cigarette will be less flimsy.

I've seen people do this; mostly Marlboro smokers. I never do it. It's just a habit that probably got invented by somebody in the Navy. It's not necessary. I think it makes the smoke burn much faster. Don't know for sure

Default Packing a whole carton

I buy cartons, and the nice thing is that you can pack the whole carton by banging in on a hard table or surface. It packs every pack perfectly and you dont have to worry about it anymore. All ten, packed to perfection!

I have a weird OCD thing where I hit it 11 times and then turn it and hit it 11 more times. Not sure why, but It's what I always do.

I don't think its necessary to do that. I smoke and I don't pack my smokes and they work just fine. They probably last longer if you don't pack them. I don't have any problems with the coal falling off unexpectedly.

I rarely pack my smokes either. I've seen people do it. Some people do it so hard, it is loud and it looks like it would hurt your hand. I've tried it a few times. I don't see what good it does though. To me, it seems like it makes the smoke shorter and it don't last any longer by doing that. Just makes it so you gotta go to the store more often to buy smokes.
